Lucky Penny is a great graphic novel written and illustrated by the couple behind Johnny Wander, a sort of diary/comic about their daily lives (which is also excellent). Lucky Penny is in the same vein as Scott Pilgrim in that it takes a story about everyday life and adds some zany video game style logic to it. In fact the art style is very reminiscent of Scott Pilgrim as well, thought it has a lot more detail to it.The story (without spoiling anything) is about Penny Brighton, a young woman who's very, very unlucky. Despite the fact that Penny is a bit of a slacker, and a little immature, she's a very likable protagonist. In fact most of the characters in this story are likable. I became very invested in these characters and where the story would take them.If you enjoyed the Scott Pilgrim graphic novels, Johnny Wander, or just stories about likable doofuses dealing with real world problems with a dash of comic book flavoring I highly recommend Lucky Penny. It has quickly become one of my favorite comics and I sincerely believe that it deserves more recognition.

At first, I thought this was made by the same group that made Scott Pilgrim vs the World. However, do jot be fooled: it is a similar style and a different author for this book.That being said, this is a wonderful comic. Penny is relatable as someone who seems to have bad luck follow her around, and her love interest is just as goofy in his own way. The story gets odd near the end, but it wraps up nicely

Ultimately Penny is more of an idiot than unlucky, most of her problems coming directly from obviously bad life decisions. And the third act sort of just devolves into an anti-tonal Scott Pilgrim fight scene. But, the art is so fun, and the plot so breezy, it is hard not to enjoy.

I've been reading Yuko and Ananth's webcomic Johnny Wander for years, so I was super excited to have finally bought one of their books! Bought a copy for myself and for my brother for his bday - he loved it and was ecstatic to get the book! Lucky Penny is such a fun read! It leaves you with all them good feels and lots of laughs. Fantastic book with fantastic art!!

Amazing artwork, and such a fun storyline. Lucky Penny reminds me of what it was like to be poor and accident prone and really into romance novels (mine were yaoi comics, but I digress). It's a tantalizing combination of humor, reality, and fiction all slammed together into one sexy package. I highly recommend it if you love comics, fun, and accident prone females!

I sat down intending to just read a few pages and could. Not. Stop. I finished reading my friend's copy and immediately ordered my own before driving home. It was so funny, and developed so well I just adored it. I was laughing out loud and rolling in the floor. Absolutely incredible, def read this.

This is another one of those comics that I read most of online but had to own myself asap. It's full of charm and I'm half in love with Penny.

Kinda like Scott pilgrim without the sub video game world theme going on and less angst. Read it in one sitting take a break and read it again. An easy read you can always come back to when your feeling out.

I was delighted, heartbroken and dumbstruck over the contents of these pages! I was thrilled with Mr. Dell'Olio when he made the leap to leave the comfort of San Francisco, then terrified for him as he was trapped in that first horrible storm. I was crestfallen at what appeared to be the loss of his dream, then elated at the start of the rescue attempt of the Sogno. I felt I was on that rocking boat with him as his partner wiped the blood from his eyes in the dinghy, in mortal fear he’d not be able to secure the engine or get Mario on board. Most importantly, I was inspired by this tale of overcoming overwhelming odds and triumphing in the face of adversity. Coming About: Life in the Balance is written in the tradition of Jon Krakauer's books Into the Wild or Into Thin Air, and if you like those or Adrift by Steven Callahan, you'll love this book. Buy two because you're going to want to give the other copy to that friend with a boat!!

I heard the story first-hand from Mario and Jim when my husband and I went sailing with them one afternoon. We both were riveted and exclaimed that their story would make a wonderful book! And, it IS a wonderful book!The book is very well written and captures and holds your attention from the first page. I recommend this book to anyone. It is completely appropriate for all age groups and readers.

I picked up this book after reading another review, and planned to read it over vacation. While waiting for a friend to arrive I began the first chapter. Three hours later, I had tears in my eyes as I read the last page, wishing for just one more piece of the author's life puzzle. Every chapter brought back memories of my own life's journey, it's ups and downs and twists and dives, and then would hit that emotional, sensitive part of my being that very few authors can touch. Bravo to Mario Dell'olio, please bring us on more of your life's adventures!

I read this compelling book in one sitting...Couldn't put it down. The author chronicles his personal and professional journey punctuated by compelling images of his search for an idealized life in a Caribbean "paradise". He embarks upon a voyage with his longtime partner and encounters multiple, life threatening challenges. This remarkable partnership, their resilience and continued devotion in the face of adversity is nothing short of inspirational. Their imagined paradise is not all that they hoped for, but it is clear that their ideal life is located not on an island, but within the loving safety of their relationship.

At times, it made me feel so nervous that I had to put it down for a few minutes 😊. An amazing story told so well, makes you feel like you’re there. Perseverance, strength and so much love. Highly recommended.

Although I knew that Mario and Jim survived to tell the tale, with each crisis I was left hanging in the balance! I had to put the book down and take a break. I limited the time that I read. I got so excited and so tense, and extremely happy each time that they survived a trial, that I was tired at the end of the episode.Extremely well written; engaging and exciting.So glad that you survived!

The human spirit and the will to survive are relentless, as demonstrated in this wonderful story, Coming About. The riveting details of this dramatic adventure, make it a pleasure to read. The fact that it is a true story, told from the author's perspective, makes it all the more fascinating!

I started reading this book and couldn’t put it down. It’s a thrilling story filled with harrowing challenges, courage, resilience and ultimately love. The power of the human spirit to persevere through dramatic setbacks is inspiring, and the author captures it all with humor along the way. I loved it!

It also makes you take a very hard look at what you role was in not helping the problem get solved and what your role was in causing the problem in the first place. You must take 100% ownership in even the small role you played because that small part was still part of the problem. I have always said unless you are part of the solution you are part of the problem. Until one comes to the realization that any part played no matter how small a part one may think it is, the other party may think your part was much larger.

I was surprised at the size of this book, not in a bad way. I finished it the same day I got it and it was filled with pretty good tips. In fact, it's a short book probably because it's all meat and no milk. This book explains how to deal with conflict in a biblical way and provides tools for preventing conflict from becoming messy or painful. Peacemaking is different from peace keeping and often as Christians we get the 2 confused. We tend to fight from the "flesh" and forget important principles that prevent relationships from eroding or new ones from beginning. Read this book and you will discover important tools and insight for walking through conflict- because "Peace is worth our greatest effort".

I like the combination of Bible versus, true stories telling (the author was a lawyer), and interpretation of Bible versus to help me how exactly to forgive, to love and to do.I like the author pointing out the difference between peace faking and peace making.There is a big chapter about forgiveness, it explains what is exactly to forgive someone. After reading other reviews, I guess I'm the only one with this perspective: The plot was ok and kept me reading until the end. The writing was very elementary, repetitious and filled with cliches that are typical of a new writer. After a first book, we learn to be a little more creative with our choice of words.But that isn't happening with this writer. This was #4 - so the talent is just not there.

In Jennifer Jaynes's new stand alone thriller, you will be guessing until the very end. Jaynes never disappoints with her novels, and this one was no exception. The characters are intense, and the reader gets drawn into their heads immediately. Just when you think you have ultimately solved the puzzle, another twist takes you back to square one and you just have to wait and see where the ride takes you, and it's stunning conclusion leaves you wanting more. I never like to tell people the plot of a book, that is for each reader to enjoy on their own. What I can tell you, is that once again, Jennifer Jaynes gifts her readers with a deeply engaging story that you will become mesmerized with. I discovered Jennifer Jaynes books about six years ago when I came upon "Never Smile at Strangers" and became immediately hooked. Now she can't put them out fast enough for me! If you have not read the Strangers series, I highly recommend that you stop what you are doing and start reading right now...you will find yourself in bed some nights humming "Lay, Lady, Lay" when it is dark and stormy and remember the thrill. I have introduced Jennifer Jaynes books to many of my friends, and they are all just as addicted as I am to the thrill of the chase, the guaranteed suspense, and the extreme pleasure any true lover of thrillers will get from her stories...they are not to be missed!!

I do not understand why so many people enjoyed this book. The ending was ridiculous. I found myself rolling my eyes. Okay thriller until the last chapter when things got beyond stupid. Save your time.

Another exciting read from Jennifer Jaynes! Fantastic story, held my attention from the first chapter. I personally loved the ending...it leaves the storyline​ open for a possible sequel. And I hope there is one, because her sequel to Never Smile at Strangers was excellent.The editing was top notch as well. One of my pet peeves with Kindle books is the lack of editing. Missing words, typos, etc. Didn't spot one mistake in this book.I look forward to reading more of Ms. Jaynes work.

Most of the reviews had me thinking this book would be a lot better than I thought it was. I found the characters to be mostly unlikable, and the plot to be fairly unbelievable, and the ending to be a total washout. Can't think of much I did like about it, actually, and if I'd known the way it would end I'd have stopped soon after I started. I thought the "clues" were obvious, and the big reveal was not the shock it was supposed to be. Overall, a poor investment.

I would have given this book three stars if not for the ending. It is so wrong on so many levels. It is amoral and disgusting, and I'm a mother as well. Did the author try to shock is us or did she simply took a shortcut ? Either way what a mistake ! I wish I had not read this book since it left a very bad taste. I will not read another book by this author.

I have loved Jennifer Jaynes books since I read Never Smile At Strangers. I devoured that series. When I saw this book was coming out I instantly pre-ordered it. Then I waited. I don't think I was ever so impatient for a book to be released! Was it worth the wait? Oh yes!I never read any of the blurbs about it. In all honesty, given the title, I assumed it was going to be another book in the series. I was surprised when I began it and knew it wasn't. I was not surprised or disappointed at all though by the writing. This author is amazing. You definitely want to carve out enough time to read it non stop. The story will hold you captive. Don't worry though, it moves at a fast pace. I figured it out. Then doubted myself. Figured it out again. Changed my mind. Kept questioning myself and the clues almost to the reveal! Then after the reveal, I was asking myself a new set of questions. I am still playing the question game. I imagine I will be for awhile.Jennifer Jaynes books tend to stay with me. I find myself recommending them long after I read them. This book will join the others on my favorites shelf. It will be a book I return to in the winter when I love to read a good thriller cuddled up with my dog, (who gives this book two paws up - four paws up being reserved for belly rubs), hot chocolate and snow outside. I am already eagerly waiting for the next book. If you are thinking of getting this book, like a fast pace, enjoy true crime, (this is not a true crime book though), stop thinking. Go get this thriller.

My major problem with this book is the misleading synopsis. The book isn't nearly as exciting as it's made out to be and while it was ok, I couldn't get past the disappointment.It was also a little underdeveloped. Characters existed just so the book would have a suspect pool and if you can stand the daughter, Alexa, by the end of this book, then please give yourself a major pat on the back. She's a horrible person and her mental health does not excuse some of her hateful actions.I also knew who the killer was on page 37, so it didn't even manage to shock me.The book straddles the line of family drama and thriller and it doesn't do either particularly well. With more development and content editing, it could have been the story the synopsis promised it would be.
