Purchased the Eyewitness Top 10 Rio de Janeiro guide for my recent trip. I found it quite useful in finding recommended places to see supplemented by nice pictures of said attractions. The guide also has a few useful phrase translations for English to Portuguese and also provides good suggestions for restaurants with price ranges in specific geographic areas of Rio. The pages are thick and the pull out map is useful but not detailed enough for finding most specific addresses. I'd suggest Google maps for those instances.

I have used these books for travel before. Not a lot of detail about places, but a great way to move around and see all of the important things and get to see some great places will out having to search a big book. Also good for when you are just looking for simple things in a new place (restaurant, hotel, shops) and they are all ranked.

This guide, like every "Eyewitness Guide" is always top quality. It doesn't just tell you the rote facts like nearly every other guide. It provides interesting details, such as, exact names of shops for shoes, etc.. Nice pictures, helpful fold-out maps, and the real low-down on things such as matters of personal safety in Rio, what to expect, manners, etc.

Very familiar with the DK "Top 10" travel books....they're perfect for day stops from cruise ships, or 2 or 3 day trips to a certain city where time is very limited and you just want to hit the "must see'' locations. Small enough to carry with you in your back pocket, comprehensive enough to give you what you need to know in a nutshell. Colorful, concise, with good advice on each location.

I'm a big fan of the Eyewitness Travel books. I've used them for Paris, London, and now Rio. Having worked there this summer, I thought it did a good job of mapping out all the interesting parts of the city (and state) and gave us a list of things to do when I ran out of ideas. Very happy with the purchase.

My first choice in travel books! It never failed me!Slim and light to carry in my purse! AWESOME!I bought the comprehensive book on Brazil which had a small section about Rio. This on the other hand is all about Rio and was perfect for the week I vacationed there. It covered all the major sightseeing and also the small residential neighborhoods to see. It lacks rainy days alternatives for I ended up using a local guide book in Rio to assist me during the cloudy/rainy days while I was there. Overall 2 thumbs up!

I found this very useful during my trip!

Might be okay as a book but just doesn't work on Kindle. Could not truly figure the lay out and impossible to find a specific topic.

Delicate and colorful, we used these to make a banner for my daughter's birthday party. The tiles can be re-arranged to form a different banner. The Amazon listing does not say how many tiles of each letter there is, so I'm copying it here:8 tiles: florals5 tiles each: A,E4 tiles each: H,O3 tiles each: B, C, D, G, I, L, M, N, P, R, S, T, Y2 tiles each: F, J, K, U, V, W1 tile each: Q, X, Z

I bought this garland to use at my wedding. Words to describe our wedding vibe: delicate, pastel, vintage, and rustic. This garland is perfect. The botanical print is lovely and I like the clean, simplicity of the font used.The only thing I would change about this garland is the metallic gold. On the back of the package it says "Tiles are printed with Metallic Gold inks." The metallic gold isn't really metallic. It also reads as almost a brown instead of a gold. I wish they would have used real metallic ink for the letters because that would another layer of style and class to the already lovely design. Small quibble though.

Not only is the design gorgeous and on nice heavy card stock, but you also get a CRAZY amount of letters! I was able to make 3 banners for a baby shower. When the party was over I was able to take the banner apart and put back in the sliding box to use some other time. The only thing I suggest is to buy additional ribbon if you're planning on making a larger banner. Seriously don't hesitate, it's worth every dollar.

This product is definitely worth the price. Rifle Paper Co products are so beautiful and this garland is no exception. The ribbon it comes with is white, however, not pink as shown in some photos.This will be perfect for a wedding, or any sort of bridal/baby shower, or any spring/summer event. You can make multiple phrases - I think that I made at least 5 wedding themed phrases with mine.Sturdy discs, strong ribbon. <3

I bought these garlands (first only found them on Amazon but now they're being sold on Anthro) for a baby shower. Then it was my son's birthday. Then it was Christmas. And then Valentine's.... and somehow I've managed to keep up a running stream of words in my house for the past 6 months. I am obsessed with Rifle Paper Co and this garland is beautiful. Lovely colors. Lots of letters so you can use them in a variety of ways and say pretty much everything you want to, and also it includes floral garland flags that are totally adorable. I love them and I am so happy that I purchased. Also, must add that the paper is good quality and sturdy. My 16 month old got into the box and got a hold of a few and they are still in good condition.

Exactly what I was looking for, customizable to make my own phrases. The price point is perfect for a banner I'll be using over and over for multiple occasions. Product is high quality and very pretty. I love that it comes with a standard size of ribbon so if I ever need to replace it, then I can pick it up at a local craft store instead of rendering the product useless with replacement parts that cannot be readily located.

In true Rifle Paper Co form, this garland is beautiful. As other reviewers noted, the script is more of a bronze than a gold, and the ribbon is white (not pink as shown.) I wish that it had come with a longer ribbon or a second ribbon, as it was a bit of a squeeze fitting our phrase (granted, it was 27 characters). There are also a couple of letters that could use extras (plenty of A's and E's, not enough O's and U's!) Overall, however, I am very pleased with it- we are placing it on display in our nursery, and it could easily be used for a variety of celebrations.

So pretty! Great quality paper, had plenty of string. It really looks beautiful!! You can spell basically anything, so many letters. Shipped in two days. Can't wait for people to see it for my baby girls first birthday party! Yay!!

This is not the book to purchase if you're interested in not falling asleep while reading. You are much better-off reading K&R's The C Programming Language. Most of the contents of that book cover the topics in this book far more effectively. The only strength that this book has, and hence the 2 stars instead of 1, is that it offers an introduction to memory mappings and data structures. But what good is the book if it bores you to death? And what if that book costs you $100??? You can download K&R for free online...

I recently took a c programming class and had to get this book for it. I concurrently took three other programming classes (Perl, python, and Java) and had much better experiences in those classes with different textbooks. Most irritating was the typos in the binary logic section which threw off my calculations and were really not explained well for beginners. On top of that, there were no interesting sections, the writing was bland, and the examples were elementary. At least my other books had interesting project descriptions (Perl - web crawlers, indexers, rankers, search engine optimization; python - biomorphs, ant clustering, cellular automata, genetic algorithms, lsystems).Maybe I was expecting more from a generic c class (with a standard c textbook) but I was highly disappointed. I am left with no clue as to what I practical things I can do in c. The main thing I learnd that also related to my Perl work has been pointers, which are just like references in Perl.. but even those were not clearly explained in this book. I got more out of stackoverflow q&a's and online research than I did in this entire book (and in my entire c class).

This is a fast-paced book on system admin and the Unix/Mac/Linux environment. It emphasizes the historical and technical importance of C without being a comprehensive or even introductory guide to the language. Rather the focus is on the essence of system programming: what can be done and how to figure out to do it.My Cal State college is utilizing it for a course (designated for the IT major or as an elective within other disciplines) on this very subject. I'm taking it as an upper-division math major with a strong interest in social justice and the use of open-source systems in education--and loving it. This text, in particular, is probably my strongest of the semester.Here are the highlights: Equally challenging/accessible to professionals, upper- and under-classmen: This is not a point-by-point, 1,000 page, do-it-all-for-you, extremely elementary, 1-cent-word introduction. Yet all it assumes is a mature audience and the ability to think--as well as find other sources of information--for oneself. Theoretical, but with plenty of concrete examples: It doesn't shortchange the student from under-the-hood methodologies, or by neglecting to exemplify them practically. Concise: It doesn't reteach you everything you've ever learned, e.g. arithmetic, loops, how to tie your shoes; or devote half of its page weight to historical biographies. Unusual subject matter: System administration is critical to computing professions, but goes unmentioned in many introductory computer science classes.In all, I give this book a full-five stars because it sets out to do something valuable, does it, and does so stylistically well.

This is not the best selection for this topic. It is part introductory C, with many exercises basically cribbed from Kernighan & Ritchie's The C Programming Language and then dumbed down to the point of triviality, part basic terminal usage, and it is extremely light on information about systems programming or Unix. For less than the price of this book, you could easily have K&R C and a vastly superior Linux or Unix systems programming book, such as Stevens' Advanced Programming in the Unix Environment, or Kerrisk's The Linux Programming Interface. I have a hard time understanding exactly who the target audience is here, because it barely qualifies as being an introductory text in any of the topics that it covers.

I've just received the book, and so far the composition seems very useful, and helpful. I also received it in a timely manner, in sufficient packaging. But there is a major flaw due to the publisher, the whole book seems to have been published at an angle, even the front and back cover.

The product was a great price and it shipped fast and on time. The condition of the book was much better than I thought it would be. Great seller.
