David Telbat did an excellent job of knitting the Coil and Steadfast series together with this first offering of a new series featuring the second generation of Coil heroes. Levi Caspertein follows in his father's footsteps to turn deadly situations into peaceful resolutions, which are both clever and instructive.The most amazing part of Telbat's writing is how he captures the spirit of persons truly surrendered to the Lord, how they think and act. The characters live transformed lives, which may not seem real to those who have not yet made that step; but it is genuine and well represented in his novels.I've preferred the Coil characters to those of Steadfast. They are more real and face trials in ways that more typify persecuted Christianity. I also appreciated the look at the many ways that persons can be victimized and enslaved. Human oppression is so easily overlooked in American society, but it is present even in our midst.Well done, David Telbat, I eagerly await the sequels!
While D.I.'s writing in this books is just as entertaining as his previous works, there are a couple of relationships i wish he had gone deeper into. Perhaps he'll make a few short stories to the up the loose ends between Levi and Caleb, Kip and Mia, and Andrew's possible new love interest.I was also disappointed to learn that the next book will not be following Levi as he continues his journey to the east. I think D.I. Could have combined both story lines instead of creating two or three novels that don't connect until possibly the third book.However, I am giving this book 4 stars because I love the continued conviction that Christians should never take another's life. A dead man cannot be saved!
Waiting for this book was not easy, but it was worth the wait. This story has all the nail biting excitement of all COIL stories,and words to live by. There is no religion to name only the true way in Christ. No apologies for faith only the consequences of having Christ"s faith. Now the world has gone dark and evil is rampant, but there is a light in the remnant. Impossible odds, forgiving the unforgivable, and loving when hated, the champions in Christ grow in grace and knowledge.
Dawn of Affliction is an even more thrilling adventure in What it means to really follow Jesus in Life and Death situations.It is also about caring about others more than we care about our own Safety and Comfort. David Telbat continues in this new series to challenge us to walk in Jesus' steps regardless of the outcome to our own lives, since we are ready to meet Jesus at any time anyway! Telbat does it again, Every time I read one of his books I think this is the best one yet! I believe I have read every Novel and Novella he has written. I prefer the. Novels but I have never been disappointed and always anxiously await the next book. It is wonderful to read a great Novel and experience a wonderful witness of the one true God!
As always David writes a great read filled with twists and turns I didn't see coming. It's nice to see characters from other stories showing up again. God's Word is prevalent throughout the story. This one shows the importance of forgiveness in our lives. Looking forward to the next book!
