The book has fabulous patterns & is full of new stitches to learn! Do not be fooled by the simplistic appearing afghan on the cover- these are complex patterns & take a bit of work to get right! After starting & unravelling a panel of the 'Vik' afghan several times (more like 8...) I decided to go for an easier cabled afghan in the book to get my footing back. I am an avid crochetter & have made many an afghan; this is the perfect gift for any experienced crochetter looking for something new.
I made the Exploded Pineapple and Smocked Elegance blankets from this book. I'm new to crocheting and this book provides a variety of blankets and crocheting methods that help me grow as a crocheter. The blankets range from heavy to lace, striped to granny motifs and provides great tips for each project.I want to make the Starburst Entrelac and Mission Cable blankets but will have to wait until I have more time to commit to these projects. I would recommend this book to both beginners and experienced crocheters.
Very disappointing! Many of the afgans were pretty and innovative, but so small! There was only one decent sized afgan in the whole book. The rest were sized for toddlers or children.
I'm usually not a huge fan of crochet designs. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE to crochet, but I prefer the look of knitted items exponentially. This book changed all that. These afghans are STUNNING. It's not your usual grandma crochet pamphlet that you pick up from Joann Fabrics. There's also an excellent variety of techniques represented from cables to colorwork. I'll say that I have not actually made anything from this yet, so I cannot attest to the patterns, but I have a good feeling.
This book is a great addition to any crocheters library. It has easy to read patterns and many, many beautiful afgans to choose from.I am just getting started but plan to make at least 4 of the afgans, maybe more. There are tunisian crochet patterns as well as some cabled blankets and also a couple of pillow patterns thrown in. You can't miss with this book.
I really enjoy the patterns in this book. It shows some techniques that creates cable stitching and that was what I was looking for. This is not a very good book for beginners unless you like getting frustrated or have a teacher nearby. Of course, like me, you can look it up on you-tube. You need to know the basics to crocheting to be able to make some of the afghans in this book.
I don't have all the time in the world to spend on just one very special afghan. If you do, this book is fantastic. Shows you exactly how to do many of those things you have always wondered about. I will wind up doing a few of these, eventually. The photos are great. The instructions look complicated but thorough.
I agree with both of the other reviewers that this is quite a special afghan book and will be appreciated by the advanced crocheter looking for something unusual. The first section of cables is for me the most difficult one. I like the Tunisian crochet and the lace and granny sections. The afghans I'd most like to make are the Tunisian crochet sampler by Ohrenstein, Van Gogh waves by Guzman and Starburst entrelac afghan by Granholm. This book doesn't have a lot of information on doing the cable stitches. with all of the regular type afghan books it's good to have one that is definitely original by lots of well known designers working today.
