This book is worth every nickel. I couldn't be more satisfied with the information contained in these pages. Though it's always a good practice to seek the counsel of an attorney -- Living Wills and Health Care Proxies is a riveting work that provides its readers with an abundance of detailed easy to understand information, case studies and forms. My theory is, if you can comprehend well enough -- this book is a great starting point for helping individuals to build out an idea about what information they should be including in their End-of-Life Decision making process. While they are several web sites that provide FREE Living Will and Advance Directive forms etc the author has taken time to provide its readers with a breakdown by state for you to research exactly what the law indicates where you reside (very helpful addition). My most favorite part of the book are the forms -- you can actually tear them out, fill in the blanks and use as you document. However, I would be doing that for myself. In short, this is an awesome book and I'm really glad to have come upon it.

I am a legal aid hotline attorney and own an online medical supply and equipment business. This book is informative but probably provides more infomation than you need if you just want to draft a wiling will. There is a wealth of information and sample forms on the internet. In Illinois, where I practice, you can find forms for living wills, power of attorney for health care, declaration for mental health treatment and more on the Illinois Department of Public Health website. Many other government sites have similar resources. The problem with using forms from a book is that they can become outdated and ineffective. The real key to a living will is to make sure your family and medical providers know you have one. Otherwise, your wishes will not be known. Read this book for an indepth treatment of this subject, but to just draft a living will you can find what you need online for free.

I highly recommend this book because it addresses religious issues which no other books cover, provides cutting edge legal tips (in plain English) to avoid the tragedy that Terri Shiavo's family endured and presents a far more comprehensive approach than the generic internet forms most people use. If you care about what happens to you when/if you are unable to make medical decisions for yourself, then read this book.

With the Terri Schiavo case still fresh in our minds, the need for a living will and/or health care proxy is vitally important. This book offers timely advice about living wills and the need to find a professional advocate, like Mr. Shenkman, to guide you through the process. It is important for you, and your family, to be prepared when the time comes. This is an important book that should be read by all.

As an estate planning attorney, I am very impressed with the sample forms and analysis contained in this book. While I believe and recommend that such forms be prepared or at least reviewed by an attorney, these are the best forms I have seen available to the public. If you review or think through these forms, you well prepared to meet with an estate planning attorney.

My low score for this book is not for the story itself but designated for this particular version of Uncle Tom's Cabin. I had wanted to read this story for a while now as it is considered a classic, and I like to challenge myself by reading classical novels, so I bought this from Amazon. However, this version is heavily abridged (and not indicated that it is so anywhere on the cover or inside). It seems like it's about half as long as the true, original story written by Harriet Beecher Stowe. After comparing what I have here to what is in the actual full length story, I am not even sure how they can pass this off as Uncle Tom's Cabin. I am sorely disappointed and will not be finishing this book as it is horribly written and not worth the read. Why they needed to come up with this dumbed down version is beyond me.

I have heard about this book my whole life but never understood what it was about. If, like me you make the assumption that it is a book about a slave that "sells out his own race", which is the definition of Uncle Tom that I gathered by looking at television and hearing the term used, you will surely miss the entire point of this book. Instead, the book is about a slave that is steadfast in his beliefs and principles. A man that holds on to his faith in Jesus. I really don't get the common use of the term after reading this.Every one should read this book. It can be a hard read as it is a glimpse into a dark period in history.

Harriet Beecher Stowe’s, “Uncle Tom’s Cabin” is a book worth reading. Inside the cover of this old time favorite, Stowe easily takes readers inside the minds the slaves, the slave owners, and those with abolitionist-like minds. She skillfully winds you through the different paths of characters and creates a mostly satisfying conclusion. One that does leave a bit of grief, questioning and enlightenment on both the heart and mind. I would not recommend this book to those who are quickly angered by racial slurs or degradation of any kind. I think one of the most difficult things for readers in the present will be remembering that for the time period of this book, that the language used was part of the culture.I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to feel enlightened and full of hope, despite the hardship you must follow in order to feel them. Uncle Tom himself is a beacon of true light and he honestly made me want be a better person. This book is smart, real and oddly uplifting. Because of some of the language used, I only recommend this to readers 15 and up. You will not regret reading this truly heart wrenching and yet, inspiring story.

Oh, my goodness. After all these years, while chasing through some research, I finally got around to reading Uncle Tom's Cabin. This fabulous book through its fascinating story examines every facet and argument about slavery. I cannot help but admire the woman Harriet Beecher Stowe as she nails it down as an author. Of course, if one purchases certain modern editions of the book with all the frontal commentary, and takes seriously those jaded words, she could possibly feel discouraged enough to toss the book down. But! Never mind that, and neve rmind the negative hype you may have heard in passing (probably from someone who didn't even read the book). This worthy story is a heart-capturing must-read. My only regret is I didn't read it sooner.

I'm almost 70 years old and this is my first reading of UTC. I am soooo happy that I did! All these years, the term "Uncle Tom" has been misconstrued, misdirected, and misapplied! May God bless Ms. Stowe's soul. America, even today, refuses to accept its cruel beginnings wholeheartedly. The injustices, therefore, still persist. It is a documented fact that Black people have ONLY been granted rights in this country through protest. Although Ms Stowe brought these atrocities to the forefront more than a century and a half ago, many prejudices, injustices, and racial inequities persist. There is a day of reckoning, as Ms. Stowe so eloquently forewarned.

This was a fine example not just of the story of this time. This was a fine encouragement of the power of are Great and Powerful Savior Jesus Christ! This is a story which goes through a number of the struggles of slaves and Masters in the south at a time of great struggle. Central character in the story is Uncle Tom. He is a true saint and follower of Jesus Christ. To me and reading this is that the name of Michael Tom is used in common parlance is a slander two black people who have supposedly given themselves over to the whims of whites. There is nothing about this character Uncle Tom that is not good righteous and perfect. This man is the author's example of Jesus in the flesh. I cried when he died. Saving Grace of Jesus Christ is as important today as it was in 1850 when this book was written. If you don't know Jesus take this book as an encouragement to find out who he is. Time is limited and Eternity is coming! There are only two places that we will all go and I myself I'm looking forward to an eternity with Uncle Tom.

Published in 1851. Wildly popular. The 2nd best selling book in the 1800's (the Bible was 1st). Accurately depicts life in the American South during the 1850's. Shows the considered pluses and minuses of slavery. Addresses the dehumanization of anyone believed to be black. And details their shameful treatment by our country. Also efforts by different courageous people to help them survive. The sad disempowerment of women during this time is addressed. A thread of Christian ethics runs through the book.Historical, provocative (sad, anger, hope, challenging). Make sure you have a dictionary close by.

This is a very abridged version of the original book. The dialect has been changed which makes for easier reading, but also takes away from the flavor of the original. Maybe half or more of the original is not in this book, and much of what is left out is the negative treatment of slaves by owners. This version is easier, faster reading but if you want the real story, get the whole book.

Review

“This book will sweep you up in its narrative force and not let go of you until it is done. [Shavit’s] accomplishment is so unlikely, so total . . . that it makes you believe anything is possible, even, God help us, peace in the Middle East.”—Simon Schama, Financial Times  “[A] must-read book . . . Shavit celebrates the Zionist man-made miracle—from its start-ups to its gay bars—while remaining affectionate, critical, realistic and morally anchored. . . . His book is a real contribution to changing the conversation about Israel and building a healthier relationship with it. Before their next ninety-minute phone call, both Barack and Bibi should read it.”—Thomas L. Friedman, The New York Times “[An] important and powerful book . . . [Shavit] has an undoctrinaire mind. He comes not to praise or to blame, though along the way he does both, with erudition and with eloquence; he comes instead to observe and to reflect. This is the least tendentious book about Israel I have ever read. It is a Zionist book unblinkered by Zionism. It is about the entirety of the Israeli experience. Shavit is immersed in all of the history of his country.  While some of it offends him, none of it is alien to him. . . . The author of My Promised Land is a dreamer with an addiction to reality. He holds out for affirmation without illusion. Shavit’s book is an extended test of his own capacity to maintain his principles in full view of the brutality that surrounds them.”—Leon Wieseltier, The New York Times Book Review  “Spellbinding . . . In this divided, fought-over shard of land splintered from the Middle East barely seventy years ago, Mr. Shavit’s prophetic voice carries lessons that all sides need to hear.”—The Economist  “One of the most nuanced and challenging books written on Israel in years . . . [The] book’s real power: On an issue so prone to polemic, Mr. Shavit offers candor.”—The Wall Street Journal “A tour de force.”—Jewish Journal“Reads like a love story and a thriller at once.”—Dwight Garner, The New York Times“[A] searingly honest, descriptively lush, painful and riveting story of the creation of Zionism in Israel and [Shavit’s] own personal voyage.”—The Washington Post  “Shavit is a master storyteller. [His] retelling of history jars us out of our familiar retrospections, reminds us (and we do need reminders) that there are historical reasons why Israel is a country on the edge. . . . Required reading for both the left and the right.”—The Jewish Week  “The most extraordinary book that I’ve read on [Israel] since Amos Elon’s book called The Israelis, and that was published in the late sixties.”—David Remnick, on Charlie Rose  “My Promised Land is an Israeli book like no other. Not since Amos Elon’s The Israelis, Amos Oz’s In the Land of Israel, and Thomas Friedman’s From Beirut to Jerusalem has there been such a powerful and comprehensive book written about the Jewish State and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Ari Shavit is one of Israel’s leading columnists and writers, and the story he tells describes with great empathy the Palestinian tragedy and the century-long struggle between Jews and Arabs over the Holy Land. While Shavit is being brutally honest regarding the Zionist enterprise, he is also insightful, sensitive, and attentive to the dramatic life-stories of his fascinating heroes and heroines. The result is a unique nonfiction book that has the qualities of fine literature. It brings to life epic history without being a conventional history book. It deepens contemporary political understanding without being a one-sided political polemic. It is painful and provocative, yet colorful, emotional, life-loving, and inspiring. My Promised Land is the ultimate personal odyssey of a humanist exploring the startling biography of his tormented homeland, which is at the very center of global interest.”—Ehud Barak, former Prime Minister and Defense Minister of Israel   “With deeply engaging personal narratives and morally nuanced portraits, Ari Shavit takes us way beneath the headlines to the very heart of Israel’s dilemmas in his brilliant new work. His expertise as a reporter comes through in the interviews, while his lyricism brings the writing—and the people—to life. Shavit also challenges Israelis and Diaspora Jewry to be bold in imagining the next chapter for Israel, a challenge that will no doubt be informed by this important book.”—Rick Jacobs, president, Union for Reform Judaism“This is the epic history that Israel deserves—beautifully written, dramatically rendered, full of moral complexity. Ari Shavit has made a storied career of explaining Israel to Israelis; now he shares his mind-blowing, trustworthy insights with the rest of us. It is the best book on the subject to arrive in many years.”—Franklin Foer, editor, The New Republic   “A beautiful, mesmerizing, morally serious, and vexing book. I’ve been waiting most of my adult life for an Israeli to plumb the deepest mysteries of his country’s existence and share his discoveries, and Ari Shavit does so brilliantly, writing simultaneously like a poet and a prophet. My Promised Land is a remarkable achievement.”—Jeffrey Goldberg, national correspondent, The Atlantic  “Ari Shavit’s My Promised Land is without question one of the most important books about Israel and Zionism that I have ever read. Both movingly inspiring and at times heartbreakingly painful, My Promised Land tells the story of the Jewish state as it has never been told before, capturing both the triumph and the torment of Israel’s experience and soul. This is the book that has the capacity to reinvent and reshape the long-overdue conversation about how Israel’s complex past ought to shape its still-uncertain future.”—Daniel Gordis, author of Saving Israel and Koret Distinguished Fellow at Shalem College, Jerusalem“This book is vital reading for Americans who care about the future, not only of the United States but of the world.”—Jon Meacham, author of Thomas Jefferson: The Art of Power

Like most people, I've read bits and pieces of Israeli history and culture over the years, but this book puts it all together brilliantly. While coming from the left side of the Israeli political spectrum, the author goes to great lengths for present views that range the political spectrum. Along with Cadillac Desert and When Everything Changed, it's one of those books I've read in the past few years that I feel everyone would benefit by reading.

Told mainly through a series of vignettes and interviews, this fine book builds toward one overarching conclusion, namely that Israel, as it currently stands (politically, socially and demographically), is a country living on borrowed time.It is, at once, the idealistic, romantic story of Israel's 19th century beginnings, which ever so quickly folds into the initial conflicts with Palestinian neighbors, followed by conflicts ever more intense with each succeeding decade, and leading ultimately to the situation today in which a prosperous and powerful country of 6 million people is surrounded by 3 or 4 hundred million Arabs who, for the most part, wish they weren't there. The author, Ari Shavit, a proud Israeli citizen, sees his country as a land careening toward disaster unless and until it threads the needle out of the vortex in which it now finds itself. In a certain sense, this is a 'Waiting for Godot' story in which it appears that no solution is anywhere in sight. For there is, for certain, a poison cup in this land from which both sides drunk deeply. So profoundly distressing and so dangerous is the current situation that, at least to me, the only possible present path forward would seem to be a long series of moderating mini-steps that might, over time, ever so gradually dissipate the fear and hostility that today governs the multiple 'players and parties' who inhabit this troubled land.

For anyone interested in Israel and the Mideast, this is a fascinating book. Particularly interesting are the chapters on Zionism in the '30's, the War of Independence in 1948, and the Israeli nuclear program. It is unprecendented in my opinion to hear the Palestinian point of view fairly presented in a book that is overall pro-Israel. Reading it one comes to a better understanding of the depths of the grievances of the Palestinians and why peace is so hard to achieve. The bottom line is, unlike other "settled" countries which had huge expanses of land and small indigenous populations like the U.S., Canada, and Australia, Palestine was small and had a significant Arab population. Constructing the Jewish state led to significant displacement of these peoples but without this displacement there would be no Jewish state. Can't we all just get along? Reading this book one must conclude unfortunately that isn't going to happen anytime soon. The only criticism is that at times the author, who is overall a very good writer, is at times simply too wordy and repetitive.

This was a difficult book for me to read or review as it contains material seldom supplied in the usual sources available to me. However, I think it very important to reconsider the direction of a country so necessary for the survival of Jews, and a country that calls itself the only democracy in the Middle East.I read many facts in this book that I was totally unaware of, yet somewhere deep inside I had always questioned the total animosity existing in this tiny country. I felt the tension when visiting several times, despite loving the area and what I thought it stood for.It is not an easy read, and I wanted to go back over a number of sections in order to better understand what had taken place earlier, but I'm not that familiar yet with finding things on my Kindle, so eventually, I may re-read this book in regular book form!I strongly recommend reading this book, written by the grandson of one of the early founders, in order to see and try to understand that in order to remain a viable country, perhaps it is important to open more dialogue, both within the Israeli community and if at all possible, with the surrounding countries. Or I worry this miracle country will no longer be "My Promised Land"!

Fall into Cooking Featured Recipe from Ina Garten’s Barefoot Contessa: How Easy Is That?: Herb-Roasted Turkey Breast Why do we only serve turkey on Thanksgiving? A whole turkey breast roasted with fresh rosemary, sage, and thyme is a great weeknight dinner and the leftovers make delicious sandwiches the next day. Roasting the turkey at 325 degrees and allowing it to rest for fifteen minutes ensures that it will be very moist. --Ina Garten Serves 6 to 8 Ingredients 1 whole bone-in turkey breast (6½ to 7 pounds) 2 tablespoons good olive oil 1 tablespoon minced garlic (3 cloves) 2 teaspoons freshly squeezed lemon juice 2 teaspoons dry mustard 1 tablespoon chopped fresh rosemary leaves 1 tablespoon chopped fresh sage leaves 1 teaspoon chopped fresh thyme leaves 1 ½ teaspoons kosher salt ½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper ¾ cup dry white wine Preheat the oven to 325 degrees. Place the turkey breast on a rack in a roasting pan, skin side up. In a small bowl, combine the olive oil, garlic, lemon juice, mustard, rosemary, sage, thyme, salt, and pepper. Rub the mixture evenly all over the skin of the turkey breast. (You can also loosen the skin and smear half of the paste underneath, directly on the meat.) Pour the wine into the bottom of the roasting pan. Roast the turkey for 1½ to 1 ¾ hours, until the skin is golden brown and an instant-read meat thermometer registers 165 degrees when inserted into the thickest and meatiest area of the breast. Check the breast after an hour or so; if the skin is overbrowning, cover it loosely with aluminum foil. When the turkey is done, remove from the oven, cover the pan with aluminum foil, and allow the turkey to rest at room temperature for 15 minutes. Slice and serve warm with the pan juices. Fall into Cooking Featured Recipe from Ina Garten’s Barefoot Contessa: How Easy Is That?: Easy Cranberry & Apple Cake This recipe is inspired by a cranberry pie from Sarah Chase’s book Cold Weather Cooking. My friend Barbara Liberman calls it “easy cake”--I call it delicious. It’s even better served warm with vanilla ice cream. --Ina Garten Serves 6-8 Ingredients 12 ounces fresh cranberries, rinsed and picked over for stems 1 Granny Smith apple, peeled, cored, and diced ½ cup light brown sugar, lightly packed 1 tablespoon grated orange zest (2 oranges) ¼ cup freshly squeezed orange juice 11⁄8 teaspoons ground cinnamon, divided 2 extra-large eggs, at room temperature 1 cup plus 1 tablespoon granulated sugar ¼ pound (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract ¼ cup sour cream 1 cup all-purpose flour ¼ teaspoon kosher salt Preheat the oven to 325 degrees. Combine the cranberries, apple, brown sugar, orange zest, orange juice, and 1 teaspoon of the cinnamon in a medium bowl. Set aside. In the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, beat the eggs on medium-high speed for 2 minutes. With the mixer on medium, add 1 cup of the granulated sugar, the butter, vanilla, and sour cream and beat just until combined. On low speed, slowly add the flour and salt. Pour the fruit mixture evenly into a 10-inch glass pie plate. Pour the batter over the fruit, covering it completely. Combine the remaining 1 tablespoon of granulated sugar and 1⁄8 teaspoon of cinnamon and sprinkle it over the batter. Bake for 55 to 60 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in the middle of the cake comes out clean and the fruit is bubbling around the edges. Serve warm or at room temperature.

The focus is on creating simpler yet appetizing dishes that save time and minimize stress in the kitchen in bestselling author (Barefoot Contessa Cookbook) and Food Network guru Garten's latest. She showcases recipes that utilize fewer ingredients, limited to those easily found in supermarkets or specialty food stores. She also stays away from time-consuming cooking techniques, instead making unusually good use of her oven for everything from easy parmesan risotto and French toast bread pudding to spicy turkey meatballs. Despite the relative simplicity of these dishes, they are still elegant enough to be served at dinner parties, especially the roasted figs and prosciutto, fresh salmon tartare, and the mouthwatering, easy Provençal lamb. Garten's vegetable dishes are particularly appealing and varied, including scalloped tomatoes, garlic-roasted cauliflower, and potato basil purée, and her desserts are equally strong, with easy cranberry and apple cake and fleur de sel caramels. Full-color photos accompany each recipe and are enough to send any hungry soul immediately into the kitchen. True to her trademark style, Garten once again shows that delicious food can be prepared with a minimum of fuss, even with guests on the way. Let's be honest, there is no clinker recipe in any of Ina Garten's books. I find myself making her recipes over and over again because I love the food, but even more satisfying, the people for whom I'm cooking love it as well. She is quite simply the home chef for the modern kitchen. She bats a 1000 every time she publishes, and I use her recipes over and over again with joy.

This book was loaned to my daughter-in-law when she was going through chemo treatments - I was trying to help where I could and went through this book while there, to see if there was anything that would appeal to her. I have long been a collector of Italian cookbooks and have hundreds --- I actually read them like others read novels, comparing and learning about the regions, the people and the differences in how they differ in their handling of dishes that are familiar to all regions, including the region where my parents immigrated from. When I read through this cookbook (and I DID read through it all), I started to put cut-up "post it" strips to return to recipes that sounded very tempting to try - both simple and uncomplicated. I soon became aware that there were an awful lot of "post it" strips peeking out at the top an I wasn't nearly through the book! I was sure that I wanted it in my cookbook library, in the "Other Than Italian" collection, although there are so many "takes" on traditional Italian dishes, that I might consider it a "hybrid". I would say that it has something for everybody, though I will probably concentrate on the ones that sound familiar to my Italian heritage --- however, when I try the bread pudding on Page 18, instead of using "challah loaf", I am going to substitute my Italian "Panettone"from Italy! For Academy Award Night, or any other movie night with friends, I will be trying the "Truffled Popcorn ---, however, since I don't use microwave popcorn, I will use my stove-top popper, and pour the white truffle butter over when ready ! Looking forward to trying the "Celery (so good for you) & Parmesan Salad (with walnuts)" for Summer parties. I never thought to substitute the pizza dough I use when I make Sausage/Salami Bread --- and use puff pastry instead, to make it look really special for a fancier gathering (page 70). And --- as Ina says on page 71, "Who knew it was so easy to make ricotta?" --- though my mother made it, I wasn't paying attention --- Ina tells "how" on page 74 ---- then you can make the "herbed ricotta buschettas" on Page 73. There is a recipe for those who love cheese and find it acceptable in their diet --- I first tasted "baked cheese" when a guest in a private home in the town in Italy where my parents were from --- since my mother never made it at home, I didn't know how to approach it, but, I watched as others dipped bread into the soft cheese (fresh from the oven to the table), and I did likewise - OMG - heavenly --- I could hardly wait to serve it to my family at our next get-together - a winner ! (I don't know how Ina came up with it, but she nailed it !).Since I'm only on page 98, I will cease to comment on recipes that are "posted" for trying --- instead, I'll list ones that I know I will be trying, without commenting: Page 98: "tuna & hummus sandwiches" / Page 111: "wild rice salad (with grapes and nuts and cranberries) / Page 112: "tarragonpotato salad" / Page 120: "lemon chicken breasts" (one of my staples) / Page 154: "weeknight bolognese" / Page 157: "spaghetti aglio e olio" (my father's favorite --- interestingly enough, Ina mentions "DeCecco" pasta - a company that has been making pasta for over 100 years in the Region of Abruzzi, where my parents are from --- my father also liked to finish off this dish with chopped anchovy sprinkled over.) / Page 173: "garlic-roasted cauliflower" / and Page 182: "creamy parmesan polenta" (if I don't have any homemade chicken stock, I'll usea low sodium Organic chicken broth, found in the Stop and Stop "natural" foods aisle --- I stay away from canned products which are usually loaded with salt (even those marked lower-sodium). My mother added kidney beans to her soft polenta, which was poured onto a wooden board and served from there --- she sometimes made a "mushroom ragu" and poured it over the polenta. Polenta was a "peasant food" and served often in homes of the poor --- the cooktweaked it in some way for variety. Page 191: "warm french lentils" (I think the brown lentils will do). In closing, I didn't mean to go on so long with this review, but, I was so captivated, I didn't know where to stop ! In my humble opinion, this is a great cookbook, and I will be buying again and again, for gifting.

Ina Garten's recipes are every bit as good as those of famous chefs of a bygone era. Where Julia Child would spend countless hours and even days in food preparation, the Contessa does it with today's cooks in mind--those who have jobs, families, and a definite lack of household help.Do you recall being told to read the entire recipe before proceeding? Well, do yourself a favor and read the preface before tackling the recipes. Garten explains that keeping a well stocked kitchen is essential. Go grocery shopping right now. She builds her recipes on these items, expecting us to fill in with the perishables as needed. She is true to her word about using standard items. With the exception of a meal using fois gras--for her anniversary--her recipes call for things we usually have on hand. The book takes us from appetizers to desserts. Without overwhelming the reader with dozens of choices, Garten has carefully culled some of her best recipes to include in each chapter. She offers anecdotes and advice, making this book seem almost conversational. She tells us how to use shortcuts to achieve the same flavors and looks of more tedious methods. As a gourmet cook, I am not easily intimidated by the likes of Child, et al. I rank this cookbook easier to use than some of Bon Apetit's recipes. It is for a palate well beyond that of Betty Crocker and it certainly is for someone who is ready to entertain with flair--minus the fuss. Her style makes entertaining fabulous, not frantic. The hostess is supposed to enjoy her company and her recipes help us do just that.

I love Barefoot Contessa and love this book.

I wanted to note that when Ina's recipes list kosher salt, she is referring to either Diamond Crystal Kosher or her own brand of Kosher. If you decide to substitute Morton's Kosher salt then please be aware that Morton's is a heavier salt so you need to use less (1 tablespoon of Diamond Crystal Kosher is approximately equal to 1/2 tablespoon of Morton's Kosher.) I think this difference in the Kosher salts is the reason that some reviewers complain that Ina's recipes are too salty. Using Morton's without adjustment will certainly ruin your dish---I did this once myself. Also, table salt is heavier and you must use much less of that. Diamond Crystal has a website that lists a 'find a store' option. I actually called the company because Diamond Crystal isn't a common brand where I live. Good Luck!I will adding to this review as I cook the recipes in this book--I own all of Ina's cookbooks and cook from them all the time. My favorite one is still Barefoot Contessa At Home.***Update on December 22, 2013. I recently made the Roasted Salmon with Green Herbs. I used high quality salmon and this dish was a real hit for my family. Topping the salmon with dill, parsley, and green onions really brings a taste of summer to a dreary winter day.I also made the roasted butternut squash and that was a lovely dish.

Wow a Cook book that made Me want to cook again and again. I don't buy a lot of cookbooks but this one is special . These are recipes that are easy to make and have a step by step order that is easy to follow. Plus the recipes come out great! It's a simple way to cook that looks like it fancy. I do enjoy watching Ina Garten on the Food Network and wondered if the dishes would come out like hers and they do. Enjoyed this book so much I ordered 2 more. My best advice is "try it you'll love it". I made the French Toast which is now a family favorite. Enjoy the book it will have You saying "how easy was that. Back to the kitchen for Me--Raffle Baffle over and out
